The COSHH register is where an auditor looks first for hazardous substances - it should list everything on site and tie each one to an assessment. This keeps that master list in one place, so nothing is used without an assessment behind it.

COSHH Register Template

A COSHH register that lists every hazardous substance used, stored or produced on site and ties each one to its COSHH assessment. It records the assessment number, the product name, where it is stored and used, the quantity and any comments, giving a single controlled view of the substances in use.

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 require every hazardous substance to be assessed and controlled. This register is the master list that shows at a glance which substances are present and which have a current assessment, and supports the operational control requirements of ISO 45001.

Built for COSHH 2002 and ISO 45001

The register supports the operational control requirements of ISO 45001 (clause 8.1):

  • Every hazardous substance listed in one place
  • Each tied to its COSHH assessment number
  • Where each substance is stored and used, and the quantity held
  • A comments column for review status or actions

What's Included in this COSHH Register

Deliberately simple - one row per substance:

  • COSHH assessment no - the reference tying the substance to its assessment
  • Name of product(s) - the hazardous substance
  • Where stored / used - its location on site
  • Quantity - how much is held
  • Comments - review status or actions

Who Needs a COSHH Register?

Any organisation that uses, stores or produces hazardous substances - cleaning, manufacturing, workshops, laboratories, construction and trades. It is a core record for meeting COSHH and for any business working towards or maintaining ISO 45001 certification.

Included in the ISO 45001 Toolkit

This form is part of the ISO 45001 Toolkit - risk assessments, registers, procedures and guidance for managing health and safety in one download - and is included in every alphaZ ISO toolkit that covers ISO 45001.

Pairs with the COSHH Assessment

Each substance on the register should have a completed F-HS5 COSHH Assessment behind it.
